Adopt 'Em Challenge

The Adopt 'Em Challenge (also known as the Adopt Me challenge) is a challenge in The Sims 4 community created by Jaci Butler where one player Sim must collect and "adopt" every animal in the game as quickly as they can. Jaci Butler created the challenge in 2023 due to her transitioning from Adopt Me Roblox to The Sims 4 on her Let's Play Channel, Jaci Plays. The following lists the rules and every creature + their rarity for the Sims 4 Adopt 'Em Challenge.

The Sims 4

On May 21, 2023, Jaci Butler published the rules for the challenge on her wiki, jaciplays.fandom.com & website jacibutler.com for her fans to follow along. Her first Let's Play Episode involving the Adopt 'Em Challenge was posted on June 3,, 2023 on her Jaci Plays YouTube Channel.

objective

To make friends with and adopt or collect every pet and animal possible in The Sims 4.

Getting started

  • Create a Sim to start out with. They are the alpha or Top Dog, a young adult Sim.
  • The alpha cannot have any other Sims in their household to start out with.
  • The alpha can have any preferred physical appearance and pronouns but must have the Aspiration of "Friend of the Animals".
  • They must have the traits of Animal Enthusiast and Vegetarian but you are free to choose the third one (recommended: Dog Lover, Cat Lover, Loves Outdoors, or Good).
  • The alpha cannot be moved into any lot that costs beyond the §20,000 starter fund.
  • The active household can be moved to any lot as long as they can afford it without cheats.
  • The active household cannot be merged with another household.
  • Lots from the Gallery are allowed as long as the active household can afford them.

rules

  • Aging must be turned on for all human sims in the active household, but you may choose to turn off aging for animals & pets once they reach adulthood. (ie. Adopt a puppy, once it becomes an adult, you may turn off the aging for the animal and so on)
  • Sim lifespan must be set to normal.
  • By the end of the challenge, the alpha must have maxed out their charisma, knitting and pet training skills.
  • The player may play other households in the same file, but they must make sure the alpha's household is not aging.
  • Any mods or CC that give the player an unfair advantage over other players are not allowed (e.g. a mod that allows the player to have more than eight Sims in a household).
  • However, mods and CCs used to make the number of pets in the household unlimited is allowed.
  • Any cheats that give the player an unfair advantage over other players are not allowed. In the case of a glitch or game crash that corrupts the save file, the player is always allowed to use any means necessary to retrieve what was lost.
  • The challenge ends when every animal and creature has been made friends with and/or adopted into the household.
  • Any rewards or in-game methods of extending a Sim's lifespan, saving a Sim from death or bringing a Sim back from the dead are not allowed.
  • Pets cannot be aged up until the player gets a notification saying that it is their birthday.
  • Young adults can be moved out of the house to make room for more animals but they cannot be moved back in.
  • The player cannot make more room in the house faster by killing off underage Sims or letting babies, toddlers, children or animals be taken by social services.
  • The alpha cannot join any career track that requires the Sim to leave the lot because they needs to focus on taking care of their animals. However, teenagers in the household may join a part-time job to help bring extra income.
  • The alpha must find a way to make money without using cheats. Approved methods consist of (but aren't limited to) selling the eggs, crops, and wool from their farm, busking as a musician, producing music & releasing it (+fame)*, making vlogs & releasing them (+fame)*, writing and publishing their works (+fame)*, and stealing.
  • Hiring NPC's is allowed, except anyone that can be used to take care of the animals on the lot or within the household.
  • The alpha may get engaged or married, but it must be to a Sim that is a Therianthrope (ie. can shapeshift into some sort of animal). This includes werewolves, vampires (that possess the ability to turn into a bat), and mermaids as they are "part fish".
  • The alpha may not have more than one of the same animal (not including different versions of a certain species).
  • No other Sim can move into the household with the alpha unless they are part animal themselves. (ie. werewolves, vampires, and mermaids).
  • Pet's traits must be randomized and cannot be picked.

Additional expansion pack rules

The following lists the additional rules for expansion packs. This is only applicable if the expansion pack in question is installed.

  • The player may add lot traits to their lot if they have not already been assigned.
  • To complete the challenge in full, the expansion packs for Cats & Dogs, Cottage Living, Werewolves, Vampires, Realm of Magic, and Island Living must be installed. All other packs are optional.
  • If the alpha joins semi-active careers, they must always choose to work from home.
  • The alpha can go on vacations but they must always bring their entire household (all animals that are able to travel) with them when they go.
  • The alpha must always stop what they are doing to discipline the pet's bad behavior.
  • The alpha must always choose one of the available options on the teaching moment prompt or phone call from NPCs they have relations with.
  • The alpha may use the wishing well, but only once per season within the game. The alpha can only try the same wish once. If it is not granted, they may not ask it again until the next season.
  • The alpha may hire a butler only if deaderpools's MC Command Center mod is installed, so the player can disable child care and pet care in the butler options.

Occult rules (optional)

The following lists additional optional rules for occult Sims.

  • The alpha may be turned into a werewolf, mermaid, spellcaster or vampire.
  • The alpha can only be one of the above Occult Sims at once excluding spellcaster.
  • Only one of each of the four Occult Sims may be in the household at once excluding Spellcasters.
  • This means, the alpha may choose to become either a werewolf, mermaid, or vampire. The remaining 2 must be distributed as a child (may be adopted) and a significant other. (Example: Alpha: Werewolf, Boyfriend: Vampire, Child: Mermaid.)
  • Werewolf, Vampire (with Bat ability), and Mermaid all count towards the challenge goal. (3 legendaries)
  • All 10 familiars must be acquired by someone in the household in some way. (Cheats are allowed to be able to have multiple or change familiars).
  • The Sim that becomes a vampire MUST acquire the "turning into a bat" ability.
  • Sims may not be turned into one of the 4 Occult types with cheats or mods. They must transform in one of the traditional ways of the game rules.
